Ambient temperature sensor

So I have a 2010 clubman and my ambient temperature shows -40. Also it seems like this is affecting my a/c. I have already replaced the sensor due to it coming loose and scraping on the road. The sensor was damaged and now it seems like I might have a short. I have already reset the check engine light but it comes back. Fuses are good.. what else could it be? Do I need to replace something else? HELP!!

If the senor got shorted, I'm afraid the circuit in the ECU is also shorted. if you can read live data, see if the sensor is even responding to temperature, if not, I think the ECU needs replacement.

After replacement you have to drive it for a little while to get it to adjust so I would drive it like 20miles and see if it changes. If it still stays stuck at -40 then you need further diag to find out why.

Thank you guys! I have already driven the car for a while but no luck. Is it hard to replace or reprogram an ECU?

There are vendors out there who can "clone" your ECU (you give them yours and a replacement ECU with matching part number).

out of curiosity, how did you rewire the sensor? were there enough wiring to match colors?

Then I would start doing some more diagnosis with wire testing and resistance. The ECU is 99.9% not likely your issue as we rarely have to replace them.

Ambient Temperature Sensor - faulty reading. HELP

I’m have an 09 Mini Cooper Base Hatch. I had the front bumper carrier replaced by a mechanic. I had no issues with ambient temp sensor prior to this. After - my sensor is giving different readings from -5 +. I had them replace the sensor and I still get faulty data. My OBD2 shows issues with the sensor. I really don’t want to take to the stealership. Any suggestions.
