R53 automatic aircon blows hot after start
R53 automatic aircon blows hot after start
Hi,
My 2005 Cooper S with 144k miles on it (we're the original owners) has learned a new, somewhat annoying trick in the last 20,000 miles or so. When you start it and start driving (before the engine has warmed up) the aircon works fine -- then after 1/2 a mile or so, after the engine has warmed up, it blows hot air, if you do nothing with the controls it will then regain its senses after another 1/2 mile and work perfectly. If you turn down the set temperature when it does this to "Lo" it will then blow cold, reset it to the target temp and all is good.
Needless to say, this is somewhat annoying behavior, especially on a hot summer day. It mostly does this first thing in the morning, on the drive home after work it usually does not exhibit this behavior.
Any ideas? The only thing untoward that's happened to the head unit is that my beloved wife poured Coke on it many years ago, ever since the manual fan control switch has been sticky, but is still operable.
I foolishly paid the local dealer for an expensive hour and half of troubleshooting, they came up with nothing.
Any ideas what's up?
