Headlight bulb upgrade?
Headlight bulb upgrade?
Picked up a 05 Mini S couple of weeks ago, and at night headlights are weak. Is there a simple upgrade bulb i can buy with out having to do any mods? Did a search, but it was confusing. Thanks

When I bought my car new, it came with Halogen headlights.
Got LEDs, bought the BimmerCode program for $30, and adapter for the OBD2 for $29 and been happy since. More than just bulbs, but way cheaper than new headlight units.

silverstar bulbs are brighter and available at most auto part stores and wally world ...
I found them to be a quick and easy solution

a note of caution ... I've seen replacement bulbs that are too hot cook the entire headlight unit to the point of burning the insulation off internal wiring resulting in shorts. There is no fix when this happens other than buying entire new headlight housings which can get $$$.

Daniel Stern Lighting has been working on obtaining a bulb similar to the now long discontinued Osram 65W Rallye bulb that
was the very best H7 for this purpose (actually H9 burner on an H7 base - 2100 lumens compared to 1500 for stock H7,
and close enough to stock wattage to live peacefully with the Halogen light enclosure and wiring).
When and if it becomes available remains to be seen.
Keep an eye on his website for details - about 2/3 down on this page:

Does your car take regular halogen bulbs? Both my '04 R53 S & my new '06 R52 S have the Xenon lights for low beams and the halogen bubs for high beams.....and both car run the high beam bubs at reduced power for the daytime running lights.......
Just my thought, consider the source
