Sad day

So today I started hearing this knocking noise. I take good care of my 2011 MCS, don’t beat on it, on top of the oil changes and maintenance. This has got me worried though. Only has about 32,000 miles. As soon as I figure out a way to link the vid I will add it.

Still trying to find a host for my vid to be linked to. Can’t add it here from my phone.
This knocking sound also asscociated with the rpms. At idle it’s a slow knock, when I accelerate it gets faster. It was fine a few days ago. Any ideas guys?

Hopefully it's not the timing chain, or worse yet, a connecting rod or piston.

That’s what I’m afraid it is. Heard that noise before on a few other cars. I did my valve cover gasket a few weeks ago and the timing belt guide looked ok, no cracks or missing pieces.
I have to look for my warranty see if it’s up. If so I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and take it in.

Let’s see if this link works
you can hear it sometimes through the background noise. I know we have loud valves in the mini but this klacking noise is new.

I saw a case where the serpentine belt was chipped from inside...Get a good visual on the belt and rotate the crankshaft CLOCKWISE and see the condition of the belt

Drain the oil, look for metal particles.

Maybe clogged intake valve causing the loud knock? I poured a bottle of seafoam down the pvc hose and the car is MUCH quieter and no longer knocks. If you do it keep the RPMs at 2000 while adding.

Disconnect the brake vacuum connection and put your finger into the vacuum pump where you disconnect the fitting connection, the noise and the engine should be quiet, if it is then the vacuum pump needs to replace.
Good luck.

So the diagnosis is that theres a tensioner that has bad bearings and that was binding and causing the banging noise. They will change the serpentine belt, the tensioner, oil pan gasket because of a slight leak. Will cost me $525. Just worried these guys will flash my ecu and erase my tune. Worse yet, take her out for a test drive and get stupid with it.

Sounds like you got off cheap and dodged a bullet!!! Sounds like the serpentine belt tensioner... Good luck.
