Replacing a thermostat?!

Hey everyone! I’m new to this forum and this is my first post because I need some awnsers before I tear my car apart and skrew something up. I need to replace the thermostat on my fiancé’s 06 mini and the farthes I’ve gotten was getting the air box off and looking at the side of the engine and thinking “yah thats not the same as the supercharged engine”. The only work I've done on this car so far was putting a new drive belt on and that wasn’t too hard after I found the right belt. Im assuming i have to take several parts off before i can get to the thermostat but i was hoping someone would know exactly what parts. Mine is an 06 1.6L non sc engine. If anyone has any helpful info at all even website links or cheap places to get a new housing (just in case) please let me know. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

I assisted in replacing mine several years ago. I do not recall that we needed to remove anything more than the air box. For some reason as I type this, removing the battery box is coming to mind but I don't think that actually happened. The system is slightly pressurized as noted by the cap that reads 1.6 bar. Getting air bubbles out of the system is also a slight PITA. You will know if you have air bubbles as the dashboard will make gurgling noises.

Airbox, and Battery box, I think I remember removing some electrical connections from the ECU. I would replace the t-stat housing while you're there.

THIS video, while based on the R53, should mirror most of the process for the job, give or take a few minor differences.
