2007 mini R56

2007 mini s with 95000 miles, just finished a walnut blast, looks like the first!!
Now having throttle body issues (P1637, P1638, P2102)...did not have these before the carbon cleaning....do I now have to replace throttle body???

Was there anything wrong with the throttle body before the walnut blasting? Check all your electrical connections and vacuum lines.

did that twice.....is there anything that needs to be reset?

I don't know. I've performed walnut blasting on my BMW 335i, and didn't have any issues. Granted it's not the same car, but BMW makes the MINI.

When my wife gets back with her Cooper, I'll plug in my foxwell NT510 and see if I can access throttle body position/adaptations. If I can, I'll let you know. You can find a NT510 for about $150.00. I used it to fix my SZL fault after I changed my clutch and took the car into the dealer for a steering angle reset. The dealer told me I needed a new $1000.00 SZL module. That was total BS!!!


I just had to align the steering wheel with the front wheels; they lost the common reference point when I was taking things apart. Once I told the steering wheel where zero degrees was and the front wheels were pointing straight, I connected the steering wheel and reset the steering angle sensor. Then I cleared out all the fault codes, and I was good to go. Your fix might be just as simple.

I checked the Cooper with the NT510, and I don't see a test for the throttle actuator or as it's called in the Bentley manual "throttle housing" (EDK); there's an live test feature for the accelerator pedal module (PWG), but that won't help. I'll hook up my GT80 MINI when she gets back again.


I also looked at the schematics for the N12, N14, N16, and N18. All throttle actuator circuits are identical down to the connector and pin numbers.


Since you have the P2102 (control motor circuit low); I suspect you aren't getting voltage to the actuator. If that's true, changing the throttle housing won't help.

Good News Sasto The NT510 may be able to help you.


If you are able to acquire one, here is the menu tree to the throttle angle sensor. From there, you will be able to tell if the throttle angle sensor is correctly reporting its position.


Menu:


Drive
-5 Engine DME
-- Live Data
--- 8 Air Supply
---- Throttle Angle (Select)


The press F3 to see the live data; the display will look like this

Excellent! When you register it on the Foxwell web site, do not enter the SN on the back of the scanner. Power on the scanner by connecting it to the OBDII port on the car and find the "about" icon. The SN you need for registration is there.

You have two connections under the intake switched

update FYI.… didn't do anything else while waiting on the NT510, once it got here I started mini it idled ok, a couple of little backfires, then leveled out....plugged in scanner erased all old codes let her idle for a while and …… all was good???? go figure....crazy!!! I'm thinking it had been choking on so little air for so long it didn't know what to do with all the air coming in now.....been driving it around for a couple of days now with no hiccups.....we'll see....thanks again for all the help!!
