Chain tensioner swap, cam lock needed?

Hello all,

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but all my searching on the forum has still left this unanswered for me.

I am thinking about swapping out the timing chain tensioner on my '10 Clubbie S and had seen in the past that locking the cam shaft into position was part of this process. Most posts here I have read give the impression that you can just pull and replace.

I have a little bit of noise on cold start, but that goes away within a minute. I want to do this as a preventative measure. Are there any pitfalls to this without locking the cam?

Thanks.

I have done it twice on an N18 engine. do it slow and make sure you put a rag under to catch the oil.

Hi MiniToBe,

When you say to do it slow, I take it to mean that you back out the current tensioner a bit at a time so that you don't risk any jerking motions that may cause the chain to slip a tooth or something like that, right?

Thanks.

The cam lock is for when you change the timing chain, it is not needed to change the timing chain tensioner.
