R53 Supercharger service
R53 Supercharger service
Has anyone drained the blower oil from both ends of R53 supercharger by means of a brake bleeder, without removing from the engine? This would save a lot of time in servicing and is accessible on both ends while waterpump is being replaced.
Admittedly, I'm not at my sharpest early in the day, but I'm not sure how one would employ a brake bleeder to drain the supercharger. If you've gotten as far into the engine as to remove the water pump, you might as well take the s/c off and drain the oil the traditional way - by removing the plugs and tipping the unit to the side.
Some more questions I think. Do you cap the drain after the excess has drained? Being that these tubes are always connected, what are the chances of oil getting out of the SC and into the drain / fill tubes?
This kit would work fine if you are 100% sure of the condition of your PTO gears. If your car is high mileage I would pull the supercharger and open it up to be 100% sure.

Do you have any info as far as getting one of these kits? I am not having any luck finding them on the web. I am trying to get one of these kits for 2005 R53.
If it's not leaking out fluid......don't mess with it, leave it alone.
If it is leaking oil....you need to pull the SC off and replace the seals, then you can fill it up with fresh out.
Trying to snake a tube down there and suck out the oil is just going to introduce more contaminants into the oil.

I would be worried the small gear in the back is dry. It only takes 1.8 ounces of oil. The front takes 4.9 ounces.
I’ve done 4 sc services by removing them and dumping out the oil. The two with close to 180k miles were nearly empty of rear oil.

S/C service was one the of first things I did when I got my car which had 99k.
The back end was wasn't dry but it was definitely low.
140k now and all has been well with it so far.

Great advice, I serviced my Supercharger when replacing a leaky waterpump; (which was a brand new install by dealership/ pump o-ring) ,car had 67k and was low on oil @ rear bearing plate using GM S/C oil. The A/C condenser can be carefully moved aside to access S/C without draining system.
