Hello FNG here.

So here is the issue:
I have a 2006 MCS and my body control module went bad as they do.. I bought a new one and installed it at work and was trying to get it hooked up so I can marry it to the car. The problem is that none of the scanners we have at the shop will communicate with the ECU. I have power at the plug but thats as far as it goes. If I try to do even a simple scan it will go through the scan process and it will end saying that there were no modules detected. So with that obviously there is no way I can program the BCM to the car. Has anyone else had this issue? If so what was the cause? Ive checked every fuse, even went as far as taking out the fuse box to see if there was any corrosion on the plugs or harness but I have yet to find anything.

What type of cable are you using? Did any of the cables work before you replaced the BCM?

 

There is no USB port in our Mini. I know you really meant the ODB port. The USB is on the diagnostic instrument/computer side.

For the ODB to USB dongles built with Chinese level shifter IC, I leant the hard way that the battery voltage must be above typical nominal non-charging level for the dongle to work reliably, especially at low ambient temperature. I suggest you connect a decent battery charger and try again.

 

 

 

I had no idea you have professional scan tools. My reference is $14 cheapskate ODB dongles. I suggest you try putting back the bad BCM to see if you can see other modules. It is possible the "new" BCM is hijacking the bus, not being a good citizen of the shared community.

 

Out of curiosity I see you said it was a new BCM, is that factory new BCM or a new used BCM? I ask as there seems to be some discussion on the forums here that if they are already coded they do not work correctly.
