How do I keep armrest from sliding?

Have a 06 MCS with factory center armrest that keeps sliding open when I have my arm on it. Short of gluing it shut, anyone know how to make it stay stronger to stay closed?

I have the same problem. I think they just wear out over time. It's become so bad, that when I wear a jacket or heavy coat, its second nature for me to keep closing it while I'm driving. Yes, any advice on this instead of a replacement is greatly appreciated!

This probably doesn't help much, but what I did was find a non armrest center console and got rid of the stupid armrest all together. Now the interior feel more roomy and I have easier access to the handbrake. MUCH better in my opinion.

I stuck a piece of the soft side of stick backed velcro over the front edge and that seems to make it a bit more difficult to open, but that is a partial solution to your problem.

I put a soft tab at the back edge that holds it in place. I used some clear tygon tubing, cut about a 3/8" long section that acted kind of like a tongue hanging up and just catching the armrest, I used a small stainless screw to hold the soft plastic tab in place. Works quite well.

Good bump buzzsaw!

That's a great reference thread for those looking for a solution...

...but in my specific case,
I have to agree with nopistons and I'm going to do what he did!

I retro fitted an armrest to my MINI, and even tho the top would stay put, I took it out after about 2 weeks. I hated the bloody thing.
