did you check if the battery is tight at the terminals and is in good shape (voltage wise)?

Battery is less then a month old, terminals are tight. I'm starting to think this is an issue with my boot handle. Because I am only able to open it with the remote. The button stopped working right around the time all this started

I have been having this same issue with both of my Mini's. I am hoping the issue with my clubman(an 09 S) is fixed, it had a faulty battery which I have replaced but haven't driven the car enough to know. My hatchback (an 08 base) just started this about a week or so ago. When I first got the car the boot handle button did not work I had to use the remote. Since then I replaced the button on the circuit board in the handle. It worked fine for months then we had a very wet month of June and now if the boot is unlocked it sits there and cycles the release as if I used the remote to open the hatch, because of this I reprogrammed doors to not unlock when the remote is removed from the dash and only unlock the drivers door on the first press of the button on the remote. Along with all of this issue of the hatch releasing on its own the trip odometer and clock have been resetting on it, battery was new some where around the end of last year.

Sorry no help but ditto on the operation!

sawicki & scottselk, I have a friend who had this last month and it turned out the circuit board of the hatch button was corroded. water had gotten inside though the plate lighting. after replacement, the trunk worked great.

Still not sure what caused the issues but it stopped and has been working fine for the past few months.
