Strange AC problem

I drove the car to the store yesterday and I was there for about 2hours . On the way ther the AC functioned 100% perfect but upon restarting the car the AC now blows hot . The blower motor is working and the AC on light is lit but no compressor engagement . Any ideas ??

Could be a relay is stuck, the resistor for the low speed fan went that in turn may have purged the system or the clutch went.

Thanks for the reply . How could the low speed fan resistor cause the system to purge?
Do you know where the relay is ?

If the system overheats the freon will vent. The relays are in the engine area fuse box.

Is there an easy way to energize the clutch to see if it works .
We used to jump out the low pressure switch in the old days to see if the low pressure sw was bad or the system was low . Wheres the low press sw on the mini
and thanks for the help

The compressor will not come on if there is low freon. You can jump the coil to see if the clutch pulls in.

I jumped terminal 30 and 87 of the relay and I dont think the clutch is comming on however term 87 and ground is not open as a bad clutch would indicate . So I guess its to the shop for a diagnoses

Check out the Gen1 FAQ section as there are links for wiring schematics etc

So heres an update . Relay ,fuse ,are good . I connected a guage to the low side and there seems to be sufficient freon (90 psi) . I measure the clutch resistance thru the relay socket and its not open . I did notice that the low speed fan is not comming on but I bought the car used and never noticed if it ever did ,HOWEVER the I have noticed that when I shut off the car the high speed fan will sometimes continue to run like its trying to prevent an overheat .
Do you think this is causing my ac issues
Is it ok to bypass the low speed resistor with a solid wire so the fan runs on high always

I bypassed the relays for low and high speed cooling fan and both work . Then I switched relays around to be sure the relay was good . Its not the low speed fan for sure . I would say its the clutch but as I said I see resistance when I ck the clutch thru the relay
