R53 - Mini EWS Symptoms - No Crank
Good Morning Crew,
Ok so quick history of my new Mini situation.
05 Mini Cooper S was given to me from a distant relative (yes for free). He installed an Alta Twurbo kit, and a good deal of other performance bits. Never got it tuned, got bored with it and just let it sit out side his garage. He said it ran fine, and was hella fast, just gave up on it.
So i picked it up last summer and began the slow process of what you'd expect to be changed on a car that sat for 3+ years now. Oil, all filters, plugs and a few other small things.
Went to finally try and turn her over this weekend, and it just turns but wont crank. It appears to try and crank on a bit of starter fluid, and its getting plenty of spark and gas.
After a bit of research I discovered this "EWS safety feature", which appears to come from a battery being removed and the ECU locking up.
What are the symptoms of this exactly, and if that is it.... Aside from a dealer, can it be adjusted?
Thanks in advance!

If you have spark and gas, it is probably not EWS. For me EWS (the immobilizer) presented itself as crank (what you call 'turns') but no spark or injection (their was fuel pressure but the injectors would not fire). I fixed it by using INPA software to resync the EWS. But again, this does not sound like your issue IMHO.
See if you can find a local independent with the BMW diagnostic package (INPA/EDIABAS) - that would hopefully identify the problem quick. Did you have to unplug the ECU at any point? I had the same problem after doing a clutch job, and INPA gave me an "Error ECU rejected" message.....turned out (facepalm) that out of fear of bending the pins on the ECU connectors, I hadn't fully seated them.
