Splash guard bolts?

Splash guard bolts?
I installed my new Rennline skid plate today and it went well except for the side tabs and the bolts that must have held the aft end of the original splash guard which were missing along with the splash guard itself; One reason for buying the skid plate.
I tried various sizes of metric machine bolts and none would thread into the clips. I should have checked this out before I had the skid plate up in place and the other bolts in, but I was in a hurry and did not.
I ended up slightly forcing some lag-type screws I had on hand, 1/4" I think. They turned a little hard at first but did seem to tighten up OK.
Anyone know what the original aft bolts were on the splash guard?

I definitely should have checked and maybe replaced the clip-on nuts with some that are threaded. Since the skid plate is 1/8" thick, the original quick release screws might be too short anyhow.
OK, I looked at the ECS site that lists it as a quick screw and has good photos; that is a strange fastener. My lag screws may be OK then and they may have opened up the "quick nuts" so the "quick screws" might not catch anyway.
