windows

I had my dealer service both my windows and sunroof. They are quicker up and down plus no more squeeks. I need them to adjust the passenger side up a little more to seal the window properly, at highway speed I get wind noise. Shouldn't be a problem to fix on my next visit. Good luck.

What have they done in their attempt to fix it?

They replaced the regulators on both sides and that cured my squeak.

the first time they just put some stuff in it so that it wouln't squeak and then the next time they said that it was because of the rubber so they ordered a new one and the changed it and then this time they said that the seals for the window were wearing out so they changed it and adjusted the window again but i am getting that problem again and it is really annoying. OOh yeah anybody else have a problem where on a cold start in the moring your rev meter revs up and down after you start the car and wait around 5 sec's my tacohmeter starts to do and and it just revs up and down untill it gets back down to 1000rpms

Sweak? Geeze-- mine groan, there are times when lowering the passenger window sounds like a dinosaur stuck in a tar pit. Recently the dealer completely tore down the entire door/window assemblies to fix a problem withe the windows, and didn't address this at all, despite testing them extensively on completion of the project. Guess they figured it just wasn't important...

I have the squeal bad on my driver side 05 S with 6,300 miles. SA said it was a faulty window regulator that's a common problem. Will replace both, since the passenger side squeals as well (but not as loud.) Something about paint wearing off and rubbing bare metal.... Jimbo4

Mine started squeaking about a month ago. But I really dont want any monkeys to try and fix it, because I know they will break something else.

Oh, and dealerships lie. Not all their technicians are certified. In fact, the average NAMer probably knows more about MINIs than them.

The problem is usually the window regulators & their respective nylon counterparts holding onto the glass & riding on the rails of the regulator. They come from the factory under lubed & easily clean themselves of said grease. D2 posted here on NAM (squeaky window fixed !!!) Use the SEARCH, Luke. Greasing the rails will last about a year or so. To fix it for good the guide rails need to be removed & coated with a dryfilm lubricant.

I had this same squeek in the passenger window of my August 04 build. It was worse when the car was very hot, but always present. Mentioned it to the dealer when I took my car in for an unrelated matter and they replaced the window regulator. This was a month ago, and the squeek hasn't been heard from since. Hope you can get this fixed, because I know from personal expierence how maddening that sound can be.

This has turned into a once a year maintenance item for me.

1. Pull the door card and grease the rails.
2. Check window alignment - there are two bolts on the bottom side of the door. They are the bottom rail mounting point and are adjustable left and right if looking at your door edge on. Loosen bolts and they have a "click" adjustment feature. By changing the glass geometry relative to the door & seal, you can at best eliminate or reduce the squeek.

When adjusting, Bently manual says instert a sheet of paper at top of window, close door to the first catch, and the paper should pull out with slight resistance.

BTW, Bently manual also says that if you have disconnected your battery, the window motors loose their reference point for fully closed, and that little "drop" they do when you open the door. If you ever do a batter disconnect, manual says get in the car with doors fully closed, take the windows all the way down then all the way up, HOLDING IN THE UP position for 5 seconds once the window has reached its top point.

Hope that's useful
ciao,

My driver's side window has started to squeek as well, and yes, it has started to get very hot here in the past few days. I guess I will try to lubricate the rails.
