R56 stumbling on acceleration

I have a 2013 hardtop coupe with 53,000 miles, a couple of months ago I started getting an occasional stumble (miss?) when doing a gentle acceleration, it would stumble a few times then do fine and no warning lights would come on. It idles great and accelerates normally otherwise. Recently it has started happening more often so today I punched the accelerator when it happened and it stumbled badly for a few seconds, the yellow "engine power reduced" light came on the display behind the steering wheel and it started idling very badly, almost dying. It continued to idle bad until I shut it off and restarted and then it idled perfectly like nothing had happened. It may be a coincidence but the problem started when it started to get cold outside, I figured I'd live with it until the temperature warmed up and see if it is still happening, today it was in the 70's and it's still happening. The Mini dealership is far away and the car is out of warranty so I'd rather not take it to them if I don't have to, has anyone else ever had this problem?

Thanks, Jason

It could be a number of things like HPFP as mentioned above, but on these newer builds, the HPFP is solid good. That takes me to the next few possibilities: vacuum leak, worn out spark plugs, or throttle body.

ever changed or checked the spark plugs?

*the temp related issue you describe sounds like the HPFP starting to and now completely failing. If youre not under warranty.. buy the parts and do the work yourself to save ~1500$

+1 on getting the high pressure fuel pump checked. Mine quit at 8,600 miles -- also a 2013 (S).

The Mini dealership was able to pull the service history on the car (I bought it used from Car Max) and saw that they had already replaced the HPFP on it about a year ago.
So I took it in for servicing, the stumbling problem was likely a combination of a bad Vanos solenoid and a faulty coil, they also found that my valve cover gasket and front crankshaft seal were leaking oil. They said it kept giving out random incorrect fault codes and doing other weird things electrically so they replaced the computer; and the Body Control Module was also faulty, that would explain why some of the lights stopped working recently. There were several other small things, the print out was six pages long, lol.
All in all it was about $3,000 in repairs but their extended warranty covered most of it and I'm back on the road.

I had this problem at the beginning of winter and got it fixed...plugs and coils. I also had the valve cover gasket replaced a few months prior.

Nice, glad you got it squared away.

Mine was a combo Vanos, Coil #3 and LPFP.
