Noob and in desperate need of advice
Hello everyone
from North Carolina! I've had my triple black 2010 Mini base model for a little over 3 years. He was used but new to me. This car hasn't given me one lick of trouble until recently. Maintenance has always been done on a regular basis. With that being said he does have 88,*** miles on him and as I was getting on the interstate to come home one day my thermostat light came on(yellow) then immediately went back off. I did drive him home and it didn't overheat but now I'm scared to drive him and he is sitting lonely in the yard.
Any idea what it could be? Thermostat? Water Pump? I do my own maintenance since my hands are smaller than the hubs. Just trying to figure out if it’s something I can do or if I just need to pay to have it fixed. And closest mini dealership is in Raleigh and the BMW dealership (locally) won’t work on them. 😡
I appreciate any advice given!

Sorry to hear about the maybe thermostat problem. Yup, they do go. If there is water/antifreeze in the overflow container, you should be good to go. For the time being, that is. But this should have thrown a code. Get yourself a ScanGageII and hook it up. You will be able to read water temperature directly so you will be able to see if you have a real temperature issue. Also, you will be able to see what code was thrown. The thermostat in these cars is electronic and moderately expensive. Mine became erratic at controlling the temperature and I had the check engine light come on, which did go out. However, it should be replaced if that is the case because if it totally fails you will be worse off than you are now. I would think that you must have an independent shop around that that will do the work. Check around. Let us know how you make out.

Well, you've already taken the first step by joining NAM. Welcome. Now you need to join Tar Heel Mini Motoring Club. THMMC membership will qualify you for discounts around the area including Flow Mini. I would recommend an independent BMW/Mini tech shop for you. It's probably a shorter drive for you than it is for me. Chris at G3 Automotive in Raleigh is great to work with and way less expensive than the dealer. He has done a lot of work for me on my old R56 and now on my F56.
