Only have about 40k miles on our 2012 Mini Cooper (non-S) which I believe has the N16 Prince motor. I believe this was supposed to be the least trouble prone mini in the time period, but the other day, while driving in 1F or -17C weather, the car had a weird start up sound. It sounded like it was knocking while driving, so I pulled over and checked the oil. Seemed fine. Drove for another 10 minutes, and a red oil light came up for about 2 seconds before disappearing.

Since then, haven't had problems with the car. But this has been really worrisome. Any ideas?

 

'Seemed fine'? Considering what's at stake, I'd want to make sure. Low oil pressure is usually associated with being low on oil..
