OEM vs. OE Clutch Kits
OEM vs. OE Clutch Kits
Hey guys! Long story short, I'm back in my original MINI after selling it over 7 years ago! Back in 2010, I sold my R53 which was orignally purchase by my mom in 2003. I went from a Z4 M Coupe for a few years, then when kids came, I sold that for an E46 M3. I loved both of those cars and drove them hard, but in the end, it was always my MINI that I thought about and I am soooo happy to have had the opportunity to buy my car back last weekend!
Anyways, with that out of the way, the car now needs a few items addressed to get it back into the shape that I once had it in, starting with the clutch...
It was the first thing I noticed when I drove the car... The clutch is done, which is understandable at 145,000kms and the amount of power the car is putting down (235whp).
So my quesiton to you lovely people is: Is there ANY difference between an OE MINI clutch (made by LUK) versus an OEM LUK brand clutch kit? They look identical in pictures on rockauto and ecstuning, but I just want to double check that if I do go for the OEM LUK kit, that I'm not going to have a completely different pedal feel or anything?
Please note that the Valeo kit does not interest me. I ruled it out right after hearing about the soft pedal feel. That would drive me nuts.

Cheers

I've installed both and can tell you the factory MINI clutch and LUK are not the same spec. The LUK does have a different feel. So I would only recommend the factory MINI Original clutch.

we offer the LUK, but not what we use in our shop

Interesting.. Crazy that they aren't the same spec, but I also believe it. Ok, OEM it is then, thanks for the tip!
How about for the flywheel? Would the LUK FW cut it? Or go OE for that as well? Any personal experience with the LUK unit? I don't even know if I need a new FW, I'm just assuming I do @ 90,000miles on the clock.

*just rolled 78k on my JCW and the clutch went.. upon inspection, found hot spots and heat cracks in the DM flywheel.. so replaced it as well. I would suspect you will find the same being the clutch already failed.
