Had the engine light come on and I took it to the dealer. Their test found fault code 2d22. They then replaced the oxygen sensor and charged me 500$ The engine light came back on as soon as I got in so I brought it back in. This time they found fault code 2bco and determined that the crankcase pressure was below specs. So they replaced the valve cover. The valve cover was just replaced 3 months ago so the parts were under warranty so I just had to pay 300$ As soon as I started driving the car the engine light came back on. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Should I keep throwing money at it? Thanks

 

Sorry i cant be of any help but here’s a rundown of most of the possible codes associated with BMW/Mini. Your second code, (2bco) lists the following suspected faults:

-Oxygen sensor before catalytic converter defective
- Mass-airflow sensor defective
- Defective injectors
- Intake-manifold pressure sensor defective - Intake-air temperature sensor defective - Camshaft position sensor defective
- Defect in high-pressure fuel system
- Defect in low-pressure fuel system
- Intake system leaking
- Oil cap not sealingh
Leak in exhaust system before oxygen sensor behind catalytic converter
- Poor-quality gasoline

They also state under service instruction to “delete mixture adaptation following repairs”. Maybe they forgot to do the above.

When and if the car stops working, the problem will be easier to detect?

 

How old is the car, mileage and year? Is it the N14 engine?

 

It is 2013 s coupe with 120,000 miles. N18 engine

 

I would give up and buy something else ....... it doesn't make sense to invest money at 120K.

 

Not everyone can afford or want a new car payment. My 2013 N18 has over 130,000 miles. Car is running great and it’s worth it to me to install a rebuilt turbo this Spring.

 

At so high mileage, something else is coming that will cost more than the car's worth. There is always a time to sell before these problems may happen and take advantage of the residual value.


This is certainly better than wasting money on costly repairs and expensive maintenance. Just my opinion

 

Update: Now the engine light tends to go on and off. I went in for my required emission testing and failed it. Engine light and mixture too lean.

 

I'd be going back to the dealer and having a real blunt chat with the service supervisor. After two visits and $800, they owe you a fix.

Pull the latest codes and post here, maybe someone has some ideas.

 

They will just say it is other things and charge me. I think I am going to try this European auto Care place. I thought the dealer would have the best expertise but I was obviously wrong. The mechanics at the dealer are awfully young

 

So I took the vehicle to an independent Euro Auto Care place. The engine light code was p171, mixture too lean. They eventually figure out it was the fuel injectors we're clogged and needed to be replaced. So the dealer wasn't able to figure that out and replaced the valve cover by mistake. Total cost to me - 3500$

 

 

You could buy a good scanner & that would tell you what codes are triggering the check engine light.
