mini cooper s access needed to change oil filter housing leak
2007 r56 oil leak front of engine 120000 km.
Do I need to remove the exhaust downpipe to remove the oil filter housing to replace the seals. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards Wayne

you wouldn’t need to remove the downpipe but you would need to remove the turbo inlet, coolant reservoir, some vac lines and unhook some of the wiring harness to get the whole housing off for a gasket change.
I think you might need to remove the turbo heat shield too...but as minicooper_s said, no need to remove DP.
on our 2008 s, I had to remove the downpipe and the inner shield to get to the oil filter housing bolts. Also had to drain coolant so it wouldn't run into the oil passages when the housing was pulled away from the block.. There is a good youtube video. I don't know about non turbo cars.
Here is the DIY, I removed the DP and removed that back shield. I did the gasket and the oil turbo lines also.

Hello!
Yes, you will need to remove the down pipe and all of the heat shields in that area to fix that seat. I highly recommend installing this kit to fix all the leaks once and for all. There are also some directions on the page to cover it more in depth. http://www.detroittuned.com/dt-turbo...ine-super-kit/
