Pass. Airbag Off Light Question

I'm a new Mini owner ('09 S model) and have a question about the Pass. Seat airbag off light that is up by the rearview mirror. If my 9 year old daughter rides in the front seat i'm not seeing it come on, or it will come on for a sec and then go off. Should it be illuminated the whole time she is riding there?

There's a weight sensor on the passenger seat. If there's no one there, there is no light.
When there's a passenger, the light should stay on.

Thanks, it sounds like mine is failing in the opposite way that people's do. Can i turn off the pass side airbag system with NcsExpert?

Our 2009 Clubman S was having weird issues with the passenger airbag light and seat belt. The light would go on and off, and the seat belt chime would start going off even if there was nothing in the passenger seat. Turned out my battery was dying. Replaced it and the weirdness went away.

Read your Owners Manual. It describes the behavior of the "Pass Air Bag Off" light.

That is incorrect. It depends on the weight of the passenger. The light is on (indicating airbag disabled) if the passenger below a federally mandated threshold (I believe 65 lbs).

I believe its when there is no passenger, the air bag is disabled and the light is on.
When the minimum weight level is on the seat, (a recognize passenger) the air bag is active and the light is on indicating the air bag is off.

When I'm alone, the light is on, when my wife is in the passenger seat, the light is off.

I stand corrected. That's what it says in the R56 Owners Manual. In my R52, the light was off with no passenger.
