R52 Rear Window Cables

My rear-left window made a crunch/snap sound when rolling up this afternoon. I took the whole thing apart; the motor works and the cables are fine. The spindle that winds up the cable has lots of friction when trying to operate. I've taken the motor off, and rewound the cables to no avail. There's also lots of slack that wasnt there before.. wondering if I put it back together correctly.

I found a bentley guide online, but there's little detail. No youtube videos for this little SOB. Anyone have experience?

In the meantime I'll be hanging with my best friends, trial & error.. the latter being my BFF.

Shout out to ECS: does this little broken piddley part mean I need an entire window assembly? Really make my day and tell me I need new glass too.

The part is separated? Could it be put back together with plastic epoxy and then some fiber reinforced tape be wrapped around it and perhaps held in place with contact cement?

i could try to rig something, but id just rather replace it so I don't have to tear the back seats out a second time and fiddle around. Not a major PIA, but close. Rear left window guts. Oh, and it's red.

05 R52 with 85k miles. Good luck!

Have you looked at Real OEM for a part number?

I've got a part number off the original.. Just settled the kids down, so let the Googling begin. I'm guessing there's no part number for that little guy.

Oh snap, this might be a perfect candidate for a 3D printer!! I could glue it and have it scanned.. maybe.

It appears you have to buy the entire black section as one piece, # 51377111022.

Did you look that up on Real OEM? What category? Didn't see window parts listed anywhere.

Edit. Thats for the glass only. I think the part number is 51377111017.

Yes I missed that there were two # 1's, the black part is item two and then depends on right or left. I might check out some junkyards around my area for verts and then go pick some choice top and window parts.

In case anyone else runs into this, its far easier just to replace the entire assembly so you dont have to worry about the cable snapping in the future. I picked up an '07 convertible window assembly for $75 plus shipping (no glass). I swapped the glass, reinstalled and adjusted the new window in about 2 hours. You can adjust the window (new one didn't seal the same) with the 2 gear shaped things holding the window on. This must be done after the window is installed, and you can slip the tool down the weather seal and by the door latch.

They reference (MINI special tool 51 3 080 to side window glass) to adjust the height the front windows go down when you open the door. Mine doesn't go down at all, or pop back up when the door is sealed. I googled the bejesus out of this.. anyone have an idea?

Here's a link to adjust the rear windows. I didn't see anything on NAM, so here you go.
