I was out there just driving hard ... the temp was 97* outside and I was challenged by some guy in a Subaru, with 4 fart cans on it. I wound up my 06 s JCW and the guy gave up, but when I was just driving again, my air conditioning died.
I went home popped open the hood, saw the compressor was still running, but no cold air. I am not sure what went wrong, but I am guessing the compressor could not take the high RPMs I was giving it.
Like I said, the compressor is still turning, has "freon" in it, but no cooling.
Has anyone got any ideas on what went wrong with it?
I am going to the Mini Mania event, in Nevada City, Ca. on June 24th 2017, so I need to get this going again.
I am thinking a whole kit, with compressor, dryer tank, acummulator/ receiver dryer/ desiccant, expansion device and gasket/o-ring set, will get it going again, if I must.
Genuine OEM Kit for Mini:

I can get this set for $341.95. What do you guys think?

Yes, the clutch engages and turns the compressor. I just is not making pressure. I really don't know why, unless I over revved it and broke something inside. Possibly the accumulator got stuck open???
You say it does not make pressure, have you put gauges on it? Could be the expansion valve. The below link has a good video that shows how to read the pressures on both low/high and what the results are showing.

Hi r53coop,
The compressor is active, but it is not pumping any pressure. Either the valve is stuck open, or the compressor is shot!
I decided to buy the whole kit as pictured and replace everything, as I want a dependable system, in new shape. Hopefully, it can live with my driving, without turning it off, for those spirited driving times.
I'll let you know how it goes, when the kit comes in!
Thanks for the video! I knew someone would help me figure this thing out!
Thank you, Scooter24, For taking the time to help this old fart out!
ps. I have gauges and a vacuum pump to bring down the system.

One thing for sure: Living in a hot climate requires air conditioning for me!
