GGGGrrrr......HPFP
You're joking, right? The N14 HPFP is like one of the trademark issues with that engine. There's even an extended warranty on it just like the timing chain. Like I said the early N18 and N14 HPFPs are pretty much identical. The Bosch one on the later N18s is the bulletproof one.
If you do find a solution, you will have many grateful people to inform here :D
They make that. It's called a Honda Civic Sport. It's power to weight is very close to an R56 MCS, and with a tune it would be more. To answer your question, OP. The early N18 HPFP is internally almost identical to the N14 HPFP. It wasn't until mid 2012 that they switched brands altogether and have a good HPFP on the car.

And here I thought I did well (got lucky) with buying a 2011 with the N18. Guess not so much if I am replacing a $1000.00 fuel pump every 30 or 40k. Do I smell another class-action lawsuit....maybe? It is a known failure point that apparently has not been remedied. Anyone know a good lawyer? LOL.

There are three causes of failures on the early pumps.
1. The control solenoid fails.
2. The is a round disc inside with three diaphragms built into it (think Norelco electric razor) that can tear.
3. Under this diaphragm are three pistons that move. These are lubricated internally and are sealed. The seals fail and the oil leaks out at which point they seize up.
The newer Bosch pumps use a sliding piston with no diaphragm to tear and is lubricated by the engine oil after it passes thru the lash adjuster channel. So two of the three most likely failure points have been addressed.

Yeh makes you wonder what hell were they thinking with 15k oil changes. I personally believe most every Mini should be on a 5k change interval. Now that Vlad is pushing over 290 horse I've dropped that interval to 3k. Fresh oil is cheap insurance.
I didn't see this posted anywhere so I thought I'd add, in case anyone is feeling adventurous and wants to give them a shot.
This supplier on eBay has Peugeot/Citroen fuel pump for $550.00 or best offer, including shipping from the UK.
Cross-referencing the part number from the pump above, I found one on AliExpress for $444.00 shipped.
Edit: Group buy anyone? Minimum of 10 units.
Both appear to be brand new, not rebuilt.
On another topic, I contacted my dealer about warranty on my 2010, since it was conveniently left out of the class action, and MINI told them they would do a 50/50 split on the pump, if the dealer determined that it was faulty. That would end up costing me ~$775.00, which is cheaper than a pump from any suppliers commonly mentioned on here, but quite a bit more than either of the pumps above.

Just received a letter in the mail from MINI extending the HPFP warranty for the N18 engine in my car. It's a 12 and they extended the warranty for 10 years 120k just like they did for the N14 models. They'll also reimburse folks who've already paid for the repair.

450 is still quite a bit of money...When it warms up a little, I will try swapping the solenoid to see if it is the culprit. Otherwise, we are only left with a used pump to buy off of ebay.
I'm almost 100% positive that the solenoid is the problem on mine.
I just wish MINI didn't screw over us 2010 owners. Seriously MINI? It's the SAME PUMP with the SAME PROBLEMS!
Well, y'all did have the same deal but if you're over 120k you're kinda f'd. I will say that since having mine replaced by BMW a year ago I've had 0 issues ((knocks on wood)). The newest version is supposed to have fixed the internal issues the previous ones had. Time will tell. If you're over the mark you can contact BM'r of North America and maybe they'll work with you. N'er know!

My HPFP failed and I was covered for free when I went to a random mini dealer (2011 MCS) I am the third owner of the car and it is way out of warentee. I hope it lasts at least another 25K miles im currently at about 89k with about 2-3k on the new pump
Can you scan and post the letter? Did you contact them first?
07-10 models were covered and N18(11+) models were not. I have no letters about earlier models, I have a 12'. You can find documentation on the interwebs regarding this or maybe a 10' owner can chime in.
No I did not contact them first.
I can scan it and post it in this thread sure, it'll have to wait till I get home this afternoon. It mentions that my car, 12' S, is covered up to 10 years or 120k and that they'll reimburse me if I've had it replaced on my own dime. Mine was already replaced, a rep from BMW of North America met me at the dealership of my choice and brought along the new and "improved" hpfp to the dealership. Was a super nice guy, and he replaced it quick and free with all new lines and errything.

There's conflicting info out there. Some articles site build dates from 07-10 but I can't find anything solid regarding the 10's. Y'all got the shaft. I'd contact MINI about it, they've got to be reasonable at least.
often times euro manufacturers (BMW, MD, Volvo) do stealth recalls by fixing problem parts when they break free of charge. I wouldn't be surprised if the later fuel pumps are this case. I know my 2011 was fixed free and I had absolutely no warentee. I know volvo has been doing this with new cars recently and I know BMW does as I have had it happen with some of the BMW's I have owned (3 series had a trunk release issues for a while but they all got fixed for free out of warentee)
