New brake sensor but not reset

Few weeks ago I had the rear brake light turned on. The front brakes were still with 500 miles remaining (according to the tach info).
I have changed the rear and front brake pads and both sensors.
The rear brake service was reset without problems, but the remaining miles of the front brake could not be reset. I thought I should wait for the warning light to reset it.
Yesterday the front brake warning light came on yellow. Then a few minutes later the light was red.
Now the front brake counter is in negative miles (service required) but I can not reset it.
All other service can be reset without problems.

The problem was to change the front sensor while the previous one was OK?
Do I need to install a new sensor again or should I reset it in other way?
I have the old sensor if necessary.

I think you are answering your own question... you probably damaged the sensor trying to remove and re-install it. IMO... I would never re-use a wear sensor they are cheap. If you want to be cheap.... and check your brakes often the old fashioned way... cut the sensor off, strip the ends, twist wires together, solder, heat shrink protect, reset the warning and call it a day.

I don't understand which "re-install" you are referring to.
As I said, all brake pads and sensors were replaced with new ones.

you might as a test take the old sensor, cut the end off and solder the leads together, plug that in and see if it fixes things.

I bet its either damaged or not snapped in all the way on the deep 2 pin plug. The ABS sensors plugs are the same way.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...or-part-s.html

Pins cannot be off or bent , they go in one way( its shaped on inside), and they go all the way in and then the top clips snap together.

Thanks ECS.

I'm going to check the sensor plug since I was not present when the tech installed them (both, rear and front).

It makes sense, it's like I have a worn sensor ... or like there is not sensor ...

Mystery clarified: sensor was installed without the necessary care.

I've cut the end on the new sensor and I've soldered it to the old cable/plug (better cable and rubbers) and everything is working normally now (brake service is showing 30,000 miles remaining without doing a reset from the tach). Just waiting for new sensors.
I hope I have better luck with the rear sensor (it is showing only 1200 miles remaining). If not, I have the old sensor too to do the same work.

Hi,
could you possibly tell me where the white connector is located at the front (im having a nightmare, just brought this cooper with ISSUES (oh boy has it some issues) and i think someone has removed the sensor and tucked the wiring somewhere)
TIA

Marcel,

the first time it is easy to locate it by removing driver side wheel (LHD) and removing the wheel splash shield. Then you could see it around the suspension.

Next time, just by removing the wheel, you could reach the connector.
