Mini s steering wheel Wearing out.

Just the other day I went to take off and go for a drive, when I got in and grabbed the wheel I felt something sticky. After looking at what it was it looms like the leather is wore out on the top side of the wheel and it's left a sticky Residue. It doesnt seem to wipe away. Any suggestions?

I have a stock wheel I can sell you. It's out of an 2011 with 55,000. I replaced it with a JCW model.

A good leather cleaner....oils and gunk from your hands build up...
You MIGHT be able to rehabilitate it....
Same thing happens to the velvets/micro pile fabrics/alcateara....

I have a steering wheel out of a MCS with 8000 miles. I replaced it with a JCW wheel. It is yours - free if you want it. Just pay the shipping.

Not sure where you're located, but I agree, it's probably just build up. I had a GTI with the same issue (bought it used from a family member and didn't know just how bad a shape it was in) and at first thought the leather was peeling away. It hadn't been properly cleaned in at least 2 years. It may just be the same thing here. It's worth a shot to try a decent leather cleaner/ conditioner.

Not sure where you're located but if your in the northeast I'm happy to help you on try to scrub it (I have all of the detailing supplies) or help swap out a steering wheel with a new one.
