freeze plugs

I picked up my R53 block today from the machine shop. They popped out the freeze plugs during cleaning. Where can I buy all of them for the block?

Really, any decent auto parts store should have them.
If I remember correctly it's 2x 35mm & 2x 16mm, not counting of course the water outlet cover.

I didn't see the plugs on their websites(oriellys and autozone) So that's why I asked.

You may have to go old school, Napa, Car Quest or even local. I'm surprised your machine shop couldn't point you to some.

About a year ago I took some old freeze plugs to AutoZone and they had multiple sizes hidden with the lug nuts in the parts isles. Matched some up. Done deal. These were for a 350 Chevy engine though.

I did a quick search online earlier and there simply didn't seem to be any kits at all, it's probably going to be, have a dealer source you some or buy them individually online and hope that the sizes are what they advertised.

I went to another local machine shop he had the 35mm ones. The 16mm he had are just a bit over 16mm. He sold them to me for $2.00. He also said he taps the smaller hole and puts a threaded plug in it.

Now I just need a new set of pistons rings and I'm good to go once all my parts arrive.

Cool, glad you found some and yes tapping and plugging the small ones isn't a bad idea at all, as long as you still have some in.

I think I'll go with the plugs instead of tapping. What sealant should I use since I notice some old sealant in the small holes.

Hmmm, that's a good one, I've never used sealant on a freeze plug for fear that it may not set tight enough.
I guess something like Permatex thread sealant would work if you were to use something. (Not thread locker, thread sealant, the white stuff.)
