Bad Turbo?

My 2009 MCS is only putting out 14.5 max boost. I had it tuned (Manic stg 2+) and set on the B map (I don't have the SPS switch).

After initial tune I was seeing about 20 PSI max boost sometimes 21. I have the torque app that I use to check up on things but I do not run it all the time. I've noticed that it's been a little slow here lately and running the torque app discovered max boost is only 14 psi.

Mileage on the car is 147k and I believe it still has the original turbo. It'll be 2 more weeks before I can get my mechanic to have a look but I'm trying to anticipate what the problem might be. He'll start with a leak test I'm told.

When I hear about a turbo going bad it's usually a catastrophic failure like bearings coming apart. Can it be that I have a bad turbo that's only loosing boost? I believe the stock BOV had been replaced just before I bought the at around 108,000 miles.

Otherwise all is well with the car and I've had no fault codes thrown. It's just slow compared to what it used to be.

Any idea what I might be in store for?

I might need it. Is it new or used? What are the implications for using this on an non JCW car?

Thanks!

Have you inspected the recirc valve, waste gate actuator & actuation, wastegate control solenoid under the intake manifold?

With the car off and cool have you felt for shaft play on the turbo? How does the turbine spin, smooth and free?

I have not done anything as far as inspection. As far as the recirc valve and waste gate actuation I probably wouldn't know how to detect a problem. Is it difficult to get at the turbo shaft to check for play? Do I need to pull the hose off the output side to check?

Remove the intake tube from between the airbox and turbo.

Just checked nkfry and there is no noticeable lateral play in the shaft however there is a little play where I can pull it in and out a mm or two. Is that normal?

Thanks,
Chris

All rebuilt, It a JCW but with a custom cut billet wheel and taller profile. Makes about 15hp more than a JCW turbo. $950

Will fit non JCW perfect. A tune will make it a monster

So a turbo unit for a JCW will bolt right onto a non JCW car?

Without a tune will it at least work like a stock non JCW unit?

Thanks.

I already have a Manic stage 2+. Would I need a re-tune to run this? Is this one an k03/k04 hybrid?
