Engine Malfunction, reduced performance

Hi Guys,

Started the car at the end of the work day. Just got an error "Engine malfunction, reduced performance", with a yellow engine symbol. I have 2012 Cooper S. I plugged in the code reader and got P054B as the error code. Any ideas, what could be wrong. The car runs fine. I double checked if the gas lid was screwed in properly. Any ideas what might be causing this. On the net, the code description is saying some timing issue on bank 1.

Thanks in advance.

Possible VANOS solenoid problem, or you are in for a timing cassette.

clean the vanos on both the intake and exhaust side...check your oil level as well.

Some info at post #7 here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-no-boost.html. Check our VANOS article under the "tech info" tab on our site as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Brought it to the dealership. They replaced the timing sensor.

Weird, we have never had problems with cam sensors...
