Does anybody know if there are any Lucas electrical components used in the MINI?

I sure hope so!

My MINI just would not feel British if it didn't. . . . . .

And if not, I have a clever little mod in mind. . . . ***shhhh. . . .secret***

Lets not take nostalgia too far! Oil leaks and bad electrical bits I can do without!

They called Lucas the "Prince of Darkness" for a reason...

Lucas? How about more like Siemens, Valeo, Johnson Controls, Delphi just to name a few of the suppliers of the current BMW MINI Cooper.

The MINI's ECU and Throttle-by-wire systems are supplied by Siemens of Germany.

No, no LUCAS parts bin are used in the current MINI.

Let's hope not unless you like warm beer in your glove box.

Well, I have a set of genuine Lucas fog lamps that I took off of my 1968 Land Rover that I think are going to look very nice 35 years later on my MINI. They should really look great on the MINI and will be a nice homage to the classic rally racing heritage of this vehicle.

Ahhh, I remember the Lucas foglights on my 2002 tii. They never worked. Many people in the local club had the same problem, hence the slogan-

LUCAS...Prince of Darkness.

I actually have a "Lucas Prince of Darkness" T-shirt that also says "A gentleman does not motor about after Dark"

Can anyone tell me what the diameter of the MINI brand rally lights is?

I just had a clever idea that I will unveil when I get my MINI in 2 weeks if my fiendish plan I am cooking up works out.

I spoke with one of my friends who works at a Land Rover mail order parts place and he told me that although Lucas has been absorbed and is no more, there are still parts that show up with Lucas written on them as they have often not bothered to change the dies/molds/etc used in making parts for some classic and not-so-classic british car parts.

After my MCS died on the highway with 500 miles on it, my co-workers all joked about the "prince of darkness"! She's been fine after that, but I wonder when the ghosts will return. Heritage is better than quality, anyway...

Well, there will be LUCAS parts on MY MCS. I'm just going to have to install them myself! Tee Hee!

I sold my soul to the Prince of Darkness with my Land Rovers, so I have the dark lord on my side in this life. . .. . .

Moss Motors cary an entire line of very nice repro Lucas lights for classic British cars. In the meantime, I converted the entire electrical system on my '68 Mini to Japanese parts - I have a Nippon starter and Hitachi alternator. I know, it is against God and nature but at least it runs.

BTW, have a look at my window sticker.

I think a few of the Lucas engineers migrated over to Siemens for the MINI ECU project!

Siemens...

So...

Shall we now refer to Siemens as:
  • the Baron of Bog?
  • the Sovereign of Stumble?
  • the Yeoman of Yo-Yo?

I just sold a '70 Triumph GT6 that I completely rewired.

Please, don't tell me my new MINI will have Lucas electrics. I don't think I can take it, I may tell them to ship it back to England!

Thank the heavens that Lucas is dead, however being that my job was created by Lucas Car Braking industries; I am thankful that they existed at one time. Having the experiences of my brother and stepdad, working with Lucas wiring on their Opels, I believe their wiring really sucked...on the other hand our brakes rocked, aluminum calipers on the several US product lines were initially engineered by Lucas.
I still have my business cards with the 'big green L'.
BTW: Lucas also did brake actuation, ABS, calipers, diesel fuel injection, and heavy duty brakes.
