JBE Water Damge - No Start Help :(

Hello everybody! I have a Mini cooper that was throwing a Red Steering Lock warning.

However, the car interior was soaked in a rainstorm and the JBE (the little box underneath the passenger side dashboard) was soaked and sadly broken.

I attempted to read the codes using INPA but I got no response from the computer. When I put the key in the ignition and press start, nothing works except the stereo and the windows. I can not put the car into neutral, I can not do anything except listen to the radio and roll down the windows. The car is flashing the red steering lock, however I do not think that this is the problem. It will also flash random other codes like the Mini on the Lift error, and the Airbag warning sometimes. The windshield wipers will also continue to run regardless of the key being in the ignition or not. I think this might have something to do with the old JBE now missing many pins off of the plug, as they were so corroded that they broke.

My question to anyone is... If I replace the JBE (which I have a good replacement), does it need to be coded? Also, I have heard people mentioning the CAS... does this need to be replaced as well or would simply replacing the junction box be sufficient enough to fix this?

Also... For anyone who has had the dreaded red steering lock error... Could you at least turn on the car and have the accessories work?

The car is an 07 Cooper with 69,000. Yes I tried a new battery. 3 different batteries as well.

Yikes That's the footwell module.Na you will have to redo the pins and the plugs , then track down all the faults and any other items that are bad from the short. You will have to go through every fuse and module. Lots of work. If you get a new footwell module.

You can get the parts number for the pins and the wire from us as well as the FRM, it will need reflashed.

The red steering lock is related to the issue that the car was flooded : here some more info: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...nctioning.html

Wahahah. I always loved you ECS Tuning. I bought parts for my Passat and my crappy old BMW from you. You always have parts I can not find anywhere else.

I got a new footwell module already, as the old one is missing about 10 different pins.

The info you gave me is perfect, exactly what I needed to know. You're the best.

This is the fuse box under the right passenger foot. you will need to replace it with a similar option fuse box or match the part number. once installed, you can program it to your car, but the car will start anyway. if you were able to open the windows, then your FRM module is fine. Finally, there is no need to replace your CAS because it is not part of any issue your having.
