Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
I just bought a 2013 JCW Roadster to replace my 2009 MCS Convertible and I am giving it the once over prior to taking it in for a warranty inspection. I have noticed several leaks that need to be addressed the first is this..
This is just above the passenger side driveshaft/transmission junction. Is this the infamous oil pressure solenoid leak seeping up the wire at the top of the picture?
Next up is a possible rear main seal leak, the oil looks to be coming out of the holes on the engine/transmission junction and seeping onto the motor. It does not look to me like it is coming down from the oil pan but out of the actual holes at the bottom of the transmission and engine backing plate.
And last is the drivers side axle shaft shaft seal on the transmission.
The car is in warranty for 8,000 more miles so I want to have this looked at. The soonest Tom Bush Mini can get me in is two weeks away. Transmission and engine oil levels are good so no problem there but I have questions about the main seal leak maybe messing up the clutch plate. I understand they won't cover clutch parts under normal wear but if the oil is getting to the clutch disk I assume I can ask for a repair of the clutch or at least ask for some sort of prorated help on new parts.
Has anyone else had the main seal and/or clutch fixed under warranty due to oil contamination?
If there is oil contamination on the clutch components then I don't see a legitimate reason not to cover the clutch components under warranty if there drench with oil. You definitely have an oil leak at the infamous oil volume control solenoid.
Looks like the seal. I would see if they can open up the transmission to engine connection and then you can see it pain as day. Should be covered under warranty.
If the clutch is contained by the oil they should replace it.
There is a MINI TSB for the volume control solenoid leak. They have a revised seal that you will install as well as a section of replacement wiring harness to remove contaminated wire from the DME harness. You will want to nip this in the bud before oil is able to ingress into the DME and cause issues.
The small amount of oil you see at the trans isn't too much cause for concern at the moment. The rear main seal sees pressurized oil, so you would notice a much larger buildup of oil if that were the case. Probably just migrating from elsewhere on the engine, like the vacuum pump, or sloppy oil changes.
