Never had the washers run by themselves, but my rear wiper motor developed a mind of its own. I had to pull the fuse to stop it. Mine would also blow the washer fuse.
I tried every thing I could think of and ended up deleting the rear wiper. No more blown fuses and the washers work as they should.
I believe there is some kind of short in the rear wiper motor that was reeking havok.

First thing to check is the battery though.

A good place to start might be to test your battery. When the battery is on its way out, all sorts of weird electrical gremlins can appear. There is a DIY here with directions on how to test it. This may not be your issue, but it's a good place to start.

I've seen batteries bad at 12v. A normal battery should read a voltage slightly above 12 volts with the car sitting still, and no electrical devices on. A typical reading would be in the 12.6-volt range when the battery is fully charged. If the reading is 12 volts or less, then the battery needs charging or needs to be replaced with a new one.
