Brake fluid smell and steam

Posted twice already about my 06 s 6 speed clutch going out. The squealing and popping when pressing the clutch. I've had 2 mechanics look at it and confirm the throw out bearing was squealing and pressure plate popping. $900 to have a new clutch put in :/ but whenever the car is started towards the back right a little bit of steam shows and you and smell brake fluid really bad. Could the slave cylinder went out when the clutch died on me?

It is definitely possible. When you press on the clutch, pressurized brake fluid moves from the master cylinder through either a metal or rubber line to the slave cylinder mounted on the transmission. A spongy feel to the clutch pedal, grinding of gears when shifting, long pedal travel, and hydraulic leaks under the car are all signs that one or more components of the system have failed. Have you replaced the clutch yet? Can you see leaks anywhere? Replacing the slave cylinder is actually pretty simple. Here is a DIY that can help you with doing the replacement to save some money. Can buy the part here if needed.

You can also save a good chunk of change by doing it yourself on the clutch job. We have a good DIY tech article here for the clutch replacement and parts here. Definitely requires proper tools and a bit of your time though.

Let me know if you have any other questions or need any other help.
