VERY strange new problem

I have had literally every single problem in this section of the forum in the 5 years I've owned my MINI, but the newest one is a real mystery to me.

I picked my car up from the dealership yesterday (clutch and clutch pedal bushings, high pressure fuel pump, alignment, front lower control arm bushings) and stopped to gas up on the way home.

When I put the nozzle into the filler thing on the car, it felt loose.

I emailed the service writer from the gas station, but they had already closed up by then so I am going to have to wait til Monday for them to look at it.

Anyone ever heard of this? More importantly, is it any sort of fire hazard? That's probably a stupid question, but it is the gas tank and there is definitely something loose in there :(

It's probably the neck piece that secures the pipe that goes to the tank, it also holds the entire door mechanism. It's not really that expensive of a part, labor well that's another story. They will have to remove the interior panel in the back seat to be able to get to it and change it out. I have had mine replaced when my car was painted, I came in and noticed nothing securing the pipe from the tank, interior panel in the back seat was removed.

Hope thing helps.

thanks! I still haven't heard back from the dealership. the service has definitely gone way downhill since they separated MINI and BMW. its like the MINI owners are not really their desired customers any more so they don't bother to encourage them to come in. if not for them having one AWESOME mechanic who has been working on my car since she was new, I wouldn't go back there.

I agree that after Mini separated it's turned into poor service and has lost that professionalism. I have caught my Mini dealer trying to lie and be dishonest with respect to hourly rates for a particular job, I got a quote in writing that they would charge me 1 hour labor ($165) to install a new tensioner. Two days later after tensioner is installed they wanted 3 hours labor ($495) for that same job, I showed him the quote that he gave me 2 days earlier and had an attitude because I caught him on it. To big of a price difference to claim oh sorry I made a mistake, I told him he was dishonest and that I would never return. He didn't care if I came back or not and this is the SA, not one of his minions.

At one time he told me I was having problems with my Mini because it's an old car, it's only 7 years old not 15-20. If you build a piece of **** it won't last but if you build a quality car it will last 15-20 years.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I discovered the same thing - my fuel filler neck is loose (wiggles back and forth).

OP - did you ever get this fixed, and how much work/money was it?

Fits snug against the gas cap trim:

#11 will be held by #17 and the cap surround.

Remove left rear wheel. Remove felt fender liner. You now have access to all areas to be checked for tightness.
