Faulty coil pack question
Faulty coil pack question
So it's been a fun couple days trying to sort what now seems like a simple issue
A few weeks I was driving to work and the eml light came on and I had no throttley. Idled around the corner to work and plugged in our scan tool. I had 2 codes which related to a faulty throttle body or wiring loom. I had access to both so I swapped them both
Once I put it all back together I ran it got it hot all seemed well. It wasn't... As soon as I tried to accelerate it started missing the eml light came on. After a minute of trying to drive it she stopped running all together. No codes are logged but eml light is on when it does choose to sort of run.
I swapped the cam and crank sensors.
No difference.
Swapped the coil pack and its back to her normal self. I thought these things were supposed to log a code if there is a cylinder misfire. Does anyone have a similar story or experience with one of these coil packs failing?
Matt.

Coils definitely can cause a lot of mishap with these vehicles. This article has some good info about the OEM coils and about possibly upgrading.

Just replace the pack and get the plugs and wires done at the same time.
Watch unbolting the screws on the pack as they can sometimes seize on the nut stud. If they feel very tight , hit the stud nit with some PB blaster.
