BMP Intake...Order or not to Order...that is the question.

ficcion: that "underside" of the intake sits ON the lower half of the stock airbox.
With either the MINI Madness or the BMP intakes, you remove the top half, leaving the bottom half, and then the intake bolts in to the factory attach points. So it's not open to the engine compartment on the bottom, just the bottom of the airbox, which is where the air feed from the front of the grille comes in.

>>R I did not even mention the $$$ word. I simply wanted to know for preformance reasons is this the best product out there? They claim 12.9 hp boost and I find that a little hard to believe. If you can get that for $169.00 then its worth that and more. I simply wanted to know who has it and does it work as they say? Anyone have it yet and what do you think?

>>Oh, gotcha. Hmm.. so does anyone know if on the dyno run that BMP did where they got this 12.9 hp, if the hood was open and they had a fan on it? Because if it was closed, I would think the numbers would be worse that the MINI Madness, since it would be pulling in warmer air. Or is my understanding confused somehow?
Dave,
From what I've gathered, the 12.9 figure is at the flywheel.

So they kind of back calculate that? Interesting.
Do you know if the hood was open when they did there dyno run? It's just odd, that BMP would totally cover the cone element like that (vs. the sheet metal perimeter of the MINI Madness design), but then leave the back end of the BMP intake open to the engine compartment (where the MINI Madness filter is shielded from the rest of the compartment).

I think they took the 163 and calculated the driveline loss on a dyno. Then added the intake and calculated the whp difference. They then take that whp difference and multiply by the driveline loss percentage, resulting in the magical 12.9 figure. I'd imagine the Rogue could be multiplied by the driveline loss percentage and arrive at a similar figure.
I just like the price and look to this intake, over the Rogue. I like how it has the extra hole in the back to suck up cowl air, unlike the Rogue which is totally closed in. And 12.9 at the flywheel for $169 is nothing to scoff at!!!
Give me a week and I'll let you know my first hand experiences with it.

I've been driving on mine for about 3 weeks. Works well. No dyno results. Don;t care, I know it pulls harder.
It's well constructed, sounds nice and easy to install.
One minor gripe or two would be that I wish they'd polish/clean the inside of the shield. And the should have their logo on it.
Good product, get it.

In the Dec. issue of European Car there are a few ads in the mag for BMP. And on one page they happened to have that filter kit advertised with a little write-up and pic. And then at the bottom of the pic, it states, "Dyno results were performed on a Dyno-jet with our stock Cooper'S', your tests may vary." They still claim the 12.9hp gain. I'll find out how it feels myself soon enough. Hopefully all hardware is included and of the right fit. And if the instructions don't pan out, I'll most likely be back here to ask for some assistance from you others with experince with this set up.
Cheers,

Just remember that when they say "your results may vary", it does not mean that you might be lucky enough to get even more power out of it.
What is needed with this car is some ECU chip mods and a little larger supercharger. Hopefully MINI will sell this as a factory upgrade in the future like the Dinan stuff for BMW's.
But if you would be happy with 2-3 hp from this intake and would not be discouraged if you did not get any more than that, then I would say go for it.
