I'm a newbie to this forum and I have a question. Recently, either due to the cold and/or age of the car, the driver side bonnet will not latch when I close the hood. I WD40'd everything (later to add white lithium grease) to see if it would free anything up that was stuck, but no luck. I think the cable is stuck at the interior latch. Would replacing the cable set fix this? Is this a known problem? How easy is it to replace the cable set?

The interior part (that you pull on) is a lever held on by a few bolts. You can remove that and check that the cables move freely (and that the cables are still in the slot). Replacing the actual cable is more involved - because it feeds to two latches, there are two cables - the far side cable routes along and under the front of the windshield so a lot of stuff has to be removed to get access.

 

I've had problems with latches or the cable on a couple of cars. I've replaced one hood cable (not too fun), and removed one latch to stop it from pushing that side up. Our '08 has never had an issue, both '02s have been a prob,em since day 1 of our ownership.
