Battery Bracket on 2005 MCS
Battery Bracket on 2005 MCS
My OEM battery is dead. Seems easy enough to fix except I can not get the bracket off that holds the battery in place. The long screw is impossible to turn. I'm made some very slow progress getting it loose..screwdriver did nothing (then a 10mm wrench got it to budge) after several different attempts my last resort was to use vice grips and they didn't get me very far either. I've left WD40 for over 24hrs but when I get home tonight I have a bad feeling it will not be any easier to turn.
Any suggestions? Has anyone ever had this problem? I can't even think of an effective way to break the bracket that would allow me to remove the battery. I'd rather remove it and charge the battery or remove/replace it. Either water leaked into the battery bay when I opened the hatch or something went terribly wrong with the battery. First step though is battery REMOVAL.

Sounds like corrosion from the water on the bolt. I'd go with PB blaster or similar rather than WD-40. It's ok as a temp lube, but it doesn't do much to break things free.
If the 10mm moved it a bit, I'd go PB blaster and work it back and forth until it lets go.

Thanks! I was miraculously able to get it undone tonight. I will keep in mind the PB blaster for the future. It was difficult to tell bc the first few mm were not rusty (I'm guessing related to the water level).
