Clutch questions

tl;dr does it have a valve in the clutch line to cause excessive slip (like some BMWs do), and if so, how does one remove it?

Hey guys, I own a 05 (produced 04) R53 with the 6 speed. I have been driving it for close to a year and have a question.

Obviously, our clutches are very different than some other types. Do our clutches have that stupid valve that BMW puts in line so we can't "pop" the clutch, or release it too quickly? Basically, if you power shift from first to second (which I do sometimes..) I can hear it noticeably slipping (or wheel spin, can't tell, mainly happens on cold days)

transmission was replaced at 65k (endbell housing cracked..???) and now it is at 95k. Unsure if the clutch was replaced at this time.

Thanks guys.

No, it does not have a clutch delay valve (CDV).

Alright, thanks. Time to start saving for a clutch replacement and take it easy until then, lol.

There is not anything that makes our clutches different from the rest, they all use a flywheel, pressure plate, friction disc, throw out bearing, and a slave cylinder to engage/disengage it. Biggest difference is going to be the dual mass flywheel the S cars had from the factory, but that is even becoming industry norm with all the manufacturers.

95K sounds a touch low for clutch life, but it depends soley on the driver, and conditions driving in. As long as you don't slip it constantly you'll still see months of driving without issue,

We sell a Valeo clutch single mass flywheel conversion kit that is priced right, and is a great setup.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help,

Nick

I recently installed the Valeo SMF Conversion Kit on mine. Works great just a little rougher at idle than the stock DMF.
