2011 Justa rattle
2011 Justa rattle
Hi all, I've done a search but not finding much. I have a 2011 Justa with 28k miles and no mods done. When I go over bumps there's a rattle/clunk from the back end somewhere. It almost sounds like it's inside but it's hard to tell. I took out the rear cargo cover to rule that out and with the hatch up if I rock it back and forth I can hear it on the drivers side which rules out the loose latch on the hatch. The car is still under warranty but I don't want to waste my time taking it in if its something simple that I can fix so I figured I'd check here and see if anyone's had the same issue. Thanks

If you have access to a lift and know how to trouble-shoot suspension issues - have a go at it. If you don't, have a dealer do it for you. Just make sure you demonstrate a way to reproduce the noise to your SA.

Calgary, Your description of the rattle is similar to one that I had in my 2010 MINI. I was convinced it was coming from the left side of the dash or inside the left door. Took it to Mini service since it was still under warranty.
The tech suggested we take it for a ride. While he was driving, he lowered the driver's window. Returning to the shop, he put it on a lift. In a short while he called me back to the shop.
With a heavy rubber hammer he struck the left and then the right wheel, with the suggestion that I listen for the difference. The difference was significant. The left generated a rattle while the right just sounded tight. His conclusion was the bushing at the forward end of the trailing arm was bad. Replaced it, did alignment and it's like new again. He commented that he had not seen one fail at less than 30,000 miles.
When you consider how many things can rattle, there is little likelihood that this is your problem. So it may be worthwhile to take it in under warranty and let Mini determine what's needed.
