The siezed fan strikes again

This time its the electric radiator fan. Was stuck in traffic when the most horrendous noise started. I pulled over, turned the engine off, and the noise was still going. At least I knew where it was coming from and where the fuse is. Damn fan siezed up. Mini has been cool about it but this is not the first time its happened. In fact, the car was in the shop 2 weeks ago for the same thing.

Aside from the laws of physics, how does a seized fan make noise? A seized part is frozen solid. Things that do not move are pretty quiet. Sounds like something got into the blade area - this will make an awful racket! Sort of like putting baseball cards in the spokes of a bicycle - (Ask your grandfather)

Yo Joe ...

Sticking up for SpoMini he has one tricked out Mini and knows the mechanical properties of fan rotation. Read his mod list. The term siezed in relation to noise could be the fan drive motor thrashing to rotate a siezed fan etc.

Here's a term your Grandpa might not know....

Prig (British)

NOUN: 1. A person who demonstrates an exaggerated conformity or propriety, especially in an irritatingly arrogant or smug manner.

Where is that fuse? I just had the same thing happen and I think I pulled every fuse in the fuse box out without getting it to turn off.
