Check Gas Cap Light???

I have had this issue for a few months and I kinda gave up on it, but with all the help I got finding the tensioner bolt I needed I figured I would ask if anyone had any suggestions.

My Check Gas Cap light comes on at random, it almost always eventually comes on but the amount of time it takes for it to come on varies. I have tried changing the fuel cap, thinking it was a bad seal. Nope, checked the fuel tank itself for leaks, bad seals, ect.. Nope

I am kinda at a loss as to what it could be, a short perhaps? any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated

After about 45min searching old posts I think I found the solution to my problem. The fuel tank purge valve. Sorry to spam the forum with stupid questions.

Not a stupid question at all. If we don't ask these questions, what good is the forum. You will have helped someone else in the future with this problem. Even though it may be a duplicate post or question it took you 45 minutes to find the answer. It may shorten the next NAMers time finding the answer. I didn't even know we had a "check gas cap" light.

Old thread but I had replace the purge valve once before on my 06 MCS with 72k. It's the wife's car and it also threw a p0456 small evap leak detected code. Cleared the code, went to test drive it, and about 10-15 minutes into the drive the "check gas cap" light came on again........Found a nearby Napa, picked up their equivalent to Delphi part # 1997278, paid $45, installed it with no tools (just a key and some force to bend the bracket), drove about 65 miles to allow the ECU to get ready status, and then got it inspected. It passed. Woo hoo. No more light, no more code. Knock on wood.

This is Napa's version of the valve. I'm sure I could have gotten it cheaper online but the previous replacement only lasted a few years.....so maybe this one will last longer who knows.
