valve cover removal

I'm trying to remove the valve cover on my 2009 Clubman S. I've got all the bolts out, the coils, the ground, etc, but I cannot get it to come off. I'm prying with a putty knife and screwdriver, but it seems like there is something in the middle of the cover that is holding it on tight. I thought I'd ask if there were any tricks before I broke something.

Hopefully this is the right pic for your model,

Did you check under the cover part #4 for fasteners?

Don't know bout the clubman but there was a time when MINI used either a gasket or adhesive from a tube for the seal. Kinda depends when it rolled off the line.

Thanks for the quick reply. All fasteners have been removed, and I left the spark plugs in to keep stuff from falling into the combustion chamber. It does feel like there is sealant on the driver's side.

Got a rubber mallet? Tapping sideways (not on anything fragile!!) should loosen up any sealant that's on there.

Just might be stuck a bit for the heat cycles on the gasket, causes it to stick a bit. . Give it a tap.
