R56 Turbo rear hatch release

Hi:
My 2007 Cooper S. Rear hatch could be opened either with correct button on remote - or manually, pressing button area above license plate.

That manual soft button area - no longer works. Remote still allows hatch to be opened. Is there a micro switch that controls manual opening of hatch?

What does continued operation of hatch via remote tell us with regard to trouble shooting failure of manual button on hatch itself? And - the big kahuna question - does this need a dealer to set right?
thnx.
Barry

Sounds like the trunk grip handle if the key fob button still release the lock latch on the trunk.

Here is a link to the DIY and parts, just get the matching rear grip handle to what you have. Micro switch and everything come in one unit.

Thanks

Your Response right on the money. Appreciate the help. Pepper White and the Handle when it's the switch that is bad. Tempts one to see just how inconvenient it is to keep the remote close by.

Thnx again.

On my 2008 MINI Cooper S I had the same problem...I had to replace the entire assembly, it did not come painted; therefore, I had transfer the exterior panel onto the new mechanism.
