Airbag Warning Light On
OK, I'm a new member so I'm not sure whether this has been covered or not. I've had my MCS for about two weeks, car has just over 1200 miles on it. Yesterday morning when I started it I noticed the airbag warning light stayed on and didn't go out. This morning when I started it, the light went out momentarily then came back on and stayed on. Called the dealer, "...yeah, we've had a couple of them like that, bring it in and we'll check it, it's probably the left side airbag". They assured me it's OK to drive and the bag isn't going to explode in my face.
Anyone had this problem? Is it common? What's the cause?
While I'm at it, what's the word on the rear hatch that sometimes won't lock shut problem? Mine seems to have a mind of it's own, it's stopped working a few times, then it works, then it doesn't. I've pulled off the trim panel to investigate, lubricated the mechanism but I just don't think this is the remedy. Dealer sez they'll lubricate it when I bring it in for the airbag problem.
TIA

In general, the automakers are terrified of airbags not functioning in a collision and they have their software designed to alert at the tiniest sign of a problem. Most likely, your airbags will deploy if needed, but it is very important to get it checked out.
DisclaimerI am not an attorney, and I take no legal responsibility for anybody driving around with their airbag warning light on, so just take it to your dealer to sort out so that THEY are responsible in the unlikely event that there is a real problem.

Took the car to the dealer on Friday, fault code indicated that the problem was the left (drivers seat) airbag. They replaced it, light is now off. Hopefully it stays off!!
