R53 starting problem

Hi, I'm having starting issues with my 06 R53... I noticed this last week, goinfg home from work, I tried to stop by a store after about 10 mins, I was ready to leave, but the car would just crank and not start... I thought may be its just a small glitch...

but today, I went out to lunch from work, I was out maybe 45 minutes, went back to my car, all it did was crank again and not start.. it took maybe 7-10 tries before it started... I drove it back to work, parked, shut off the car, I tried to start it again but this time even after a few tries, it would not start anymore, just cranking... it seems to me that it does not want to start when the engine is warm/hot... I'm leaving work in about 2 hours, so Im assuming with enough time for it to cool off, it would start without issues

what could be causing these?

Get your battery checked for starters, my R53 did all kinds of weird things as my battery was going bad.

Check the fuel pressure thru the Schrader valve by the injector rail to rule out pump & in-tank hose leaks. To hunt down start issues, check both fuel distribution & ignition systems. Google: morning hard starts & now, 1-3k rpm hesitation/yoyo/hiccup.....

TMAP Sensor failing?

The reason I say this is that mine just went out (the front one) and I think it had been going bad for a while. The car occasionally ran a little rough and started to get a little hard to start. Then, when leaving a store, it just died and wouldn't run again. It would start and die. When it did run, it was in limp mode and limited to 2,000 RPMs. I had a few codes but P0107 was the primary. The other code (P0288 I think) was a result to the P0107.

It can be tested if you know of a shop with a Launch tester (or similar) or maybe have a MINI dealer do a diagnostic test on it.

These are the part numbers...
TMAP Sensor (Primary - Front - Intake Manifold) - 12140872679 (This is the one I had to replace)

MAP Sensor (Secondary - Rear - Near Thermostat) - 12140872648

Low fuel pressure somehow never popped my CEL, never got codes, just hard starts & hiccups.

hard starting

I am having a similar problem to what is being described. Mini (05 R52, 120K miles) starts fine in morning (after long sit time) or when tank in full. Runs perfect after start. When at 1/2 tank or less, car will just crank and crank (almost new battery). I think I'm chasing a fuel tank vent issue. Tried a temp fix that worked twice so far. When it won't start. I opened gas cap and then reinstalled. Started right up both times. Any ideas what fuel vent issue I need to fix (I get no codes)
