unlock toggle-no work
I really wish my MINI came specked the way I wanted it. I hate when I get out and go around to the boot and it is locked. Then i go back and have to reach in and hit the unlock toggle and it won't unlock anything. Does the car need to be running or do I have to unlock the boot before i get out or what is the special sequence.
Your unlock toggle should work all the time. If I remember correctly, the toggle will even work with the door open.
Why not pop the hatch from the key remote?

Before you get out of the car, hit the Toggle Unlock switch, or if you are already out of the car, hit the Unlock switch on the remote key and you can now open your boot.

because I usually leave the key in the car. I'm lucky to live in an area where I do not worry about crime. I wish the doors and boot would remain unlocked unless I feel the need to lock them not the other way around.

If i remember before I get out this will work. It is when i forget to hit the toggle then go back and hit the toggle and nothing happend i hit the toggle 4 or 5 times and nothing, the passenger door was still locked. I finally got it to work by first locking (toggle down) then unlocking (toggle up).

It's a key program option. My 2002 Mini came with the key programmed to release the hatch lock if you held down the unlock button for several seconds. Later, I had them reprogram it to open the windows instead.

I have a 2004 and when I hit the unlock button the first time only the driver door unlocks but on the 2nd push, everything opens, the boot, the gas tank, the passenger door. Also, when I stop and cut off the engine and use the hand brake, everything unlocks - so I've made a habit of just turning off the car and hopping out when I need to get something from the boot.

Same here, if I try to toggle up to unlock, nothing (but not all the time)...so I toggle down to lock them back up to unlock, that works every time.
My key is set to unlock driver's door with one push of the button, all doors and boot with two pushes of the button, and open windows with a holding down of the button.

Add me to the 1st time only unlocks the driver door, and second time the passenger and boot. Mine's an 04 too.
I assumed they didn't program as I asked since I've thought I can't roll the windows down with the key. I'm now even more anxious to leave work so I can see if it works by just holding the button down. If so, cool. Problem fixed without taking it back in.

You may have to press and hold the button for awhile, form my experience it is kinda hit and miss but I can open both windows and sunroof by pressing twice and holding down.
good luck, it's really cool!

Do you have the option to auto lock when you start driving? You can have that option turned so then the only time the car locks is when you tell it to.

It does work with mine to hold the button down to open the windows and sunroof. Gads, I've had mine for 9 months and thought they hadn't programmed it as I'd asked. Thanks for the tip. But I do plan to have it reprogrammed so the doors don't automatically lock at 10 mph. It's one of those little everyday frustrations when I forget to unlock again then can't open the door when I want to get out.

You do not have to unlock the door to get out - just pull the inside latch two times and the door unlocks and opens.

Get the door lock at 10 mph, shut off
If you need to lock the doors, for fear of mugging, or some such,
10 mph is probably to late hit the lock when you get in.
Mine make the noise but don't cycle .
I think if the car senses a crash the doors unlock,so driveing with the doors
locked would not help in a crash,, and I want to be able to always get out
of the car,fast,

I'm with MINI USA. Your '02 Cooper came from the factory with the boot unlock feature programmed. When your MINI is locked, just press the MINI emblem on your key once and the doors will unlock. Press and hold it for a few seconds a second time, and the boot will unlock. When you press the lock feature on the key, everything will lock. If this doesn't work, your dealer should be able to reprogram your system so it does. If you need further assistance, please phone us at 866 ASK.MINI and mention Reference # 200416200281 so that we can help you more efficiently.

Also one press on the key and only the drivers door unlocks. Press twice to get passenger door and boot to unlock.
if yours is an '04 you have options. First contact the salesperson and tell him your unhappy with the option as set. Push the issue so he'll offer to set them as you like for free. Otherwise, they have to charge you to have a mechanic connect the computer to it and change settings (1/2 hour labor).
If you live in a "safe" area, do you need autolocking? if not, disable it and all is well.
If you prefer this, I recommend a couple options as follows: Autolocking:On, One Press unlocks all doors (including boot and gas), and Autounlocking: On.
Autounlocking is not listed in the manual but they can change this. It is an option. This will make it so every time you key off all doors, boot and gas are unlocked. No more having to pull twice. Your dealer may tell you it can't be done, but it can. I complained to no end and called other dealers and had them change mine for free for the same reason you had.
If you want to prove to your dealer it can be done, reference East Bay Mini, Mini of Peabody, or Motor City Mini. Those are who I dealt with to resolve my issue.
