Serpentine belt replaced, now battery light has came on (r50)
Hi everyone.
I own a January 2004 build Mini Cooper r50. And it's got a problem so I'll go through the whole story.
It's done 58000 miles and it's been great.
Anyway, back in October, I was pumping my tyres up with a tyre pump though the cigarette lighter and when I started my car it just clicked, push started it, took it to a garage and had the battery replaced.
It ran amazing after that and had no electrical issues at all.
I noticed my drive belt (serpentine belt) was making a noise that would only get louder, and after living with it for a month or so I got the belt replaced last week as it was slightly worn.
Anyway, I was parking and noticed that the roof clock started to flicker whilst turning my steering wheel now I've never noticed this before even with my old battery? Only problems I found with my old battery before replacing it was the dials rattles on startup but they stopped once I put a new battery in.
Anyway the clock flickered for a few days but nothing was said about it online online. today I started the car and the dials rattled again. On the drive home from work my battery warning light came on but all electrics were working and didn't seem to have any problems. I arrive home and and shut car down.
I start car back up and the power steering isn't working and the battery light is still on
I assume this is something to do with the belt? Hopefully not power steering or an alternator issue
These problems have only occurred since replacing the belt last week
Thanks
Joe
